BALIK PULAU: Two men were struck by lightning at a beach near Dewan Masyarakat Gertak Sanggul in Teluk Kumbar here during heavy rain last night.
Factory supervisor Mohamad Amin Osman, 47, died at the scene in the 10pm incident. The second man, whose identity has not been established, was injured and rushed to the Penang Hospital for treatment.
It is understood that the deceased and two friends were waiting for a boat to take them to Pulau Kendi for a fishing excursion.
The deceased’s son, Muhamad Izdhar Mohamad, 21, said the trio met at the beach before Maghrib prayers.
“(It had been a long time since) my father had gone fishing,” he said when met at the Balik Pulau Hospital mortuary here.
Meanwhile, southwest district police chief Superintendent AA Anbalagan said the case has been classified as sudden death.
