SHAH ALAM: A teacher died after he was struck by lightning when he took shelter from the rain near a hall at SMK Seksyen 11, here yesterday.
Mohd Farhan Masudi, 32, of SMK Dato Harun Tanjung Karang, had gone to the school to attend a Selangor level football coaching session when the incident took place at 4.20pm.
Shah Alam OCPD Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat said Farhan, along with four other teachers, were standing in front of the hall’s metal door when lightning struck.
“Farhan fell to the ground and suffered severe injuries from his head to chest. Two of his friends who tried to help him were electrocuted and fainted. All three were rushed to the Shah Alam Hospital. Doctors said Farhan died on the way to hospital while his two friends are in stable condition,” said Shafien.
Shafien added that most of the 40 or so teachers from all over the state who participated in the football coaching session had gone home when the incident occurred.
