Construction worker killed by lightning strike

KUCHING: A 26-year-old man was killed when he was struck by lightning at a construction site in Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub here today.

The construction worker, identified as Nansion Raby Tagik, died on the spot in the 2.30pm incident.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Ahmad Abang Julaihi said Nasion and his colleagues, including the victim’s father-in-law, were installing an iron frame on the first floor of the building at the time.

“There were strong winds and rain when the victim and other construction workers were working. According to witnesses, lightning struck the head of the victim,” he said in a statement.

He said the body of the victim from Sungai Lajan in Song, near Sibu, was sent to the Sarawak General Hospital.
