SWS-250 Visibility & Present Weather Sensor
Description
Overview
The SWS-250 is Biral’s (Senseca UK) most comprehensive visibility and present weather sensor, featuring both forward scatter and backscatter receivers with a 45° scatter angle for superior hydrometeor discrimination. It reports visibility MOR and up to 39 WMO Table 4680 present weather codes, making it the sensor of choice for high-accuracy aviation meteorology and national weather service networks.

- Military airfield operations
- Road weather and highway visibility monitoring
- Research-grade present weather observation
- Port and harbour marine weather
Why Choose the SWS-250?
The SWS-250 represents the pinnacle of Biral’s SWS sensor family. Its 45° forward scatter geometry with backscatter channel provides the best possible hydrometeor discrimination available in a compact present weather sensor. This makes it ideal for aviation authorities that require precise, unambiguous present weather reporting in compliance with ICAO standards. With a proven measurement accuracy of 5% at 1,500m and operating range from -40°C to +60°C, it performs reliably in the most challenging environments worldwide.
